-
- This is not true. The requirements aren't that different to Win 95 really.
- 16mb is easily enough. I know as that's what I've got in this 'ere NT box. You
- can get by with 12Mb and it'll run in 8. Still rediculously hungry compared to
- an Amiga but not that different to 95. It also runs quicker than Win 95 does
- so a P6 is overkill. Anyway, the large RAM market has meant that prices of RAM
- have dropped a great deal. This benefits us too.
-
- If they got rid of the 16bit subsystem and kludges for running Windows
- applications it would probably run leaner than Win 95. The underlying OS is
- quite good. Just a shame it's got a Windows front end, API and big legacy
- problems.

-
- Yep. This is why an Amiga that uses the same components as a mass market PC
- can be cheaper than a PC. ie. less memory needed, slower processors required.
- 6Mb in an Amiga is about comparable to 16Mb PC's IMHO and a slower processor
- with AmigaOS will match the performance of the brute force Wintel method. PCI
- cards for graphics/disk/sound etc would be nice too.
-
- Hopefully the port of AmigaOS to PPC will be a clean break rather than AT
- trying to create completely compatible api's with the 68K line. They are going
- to have to do this if they want new features like virtual memory, memory
- protection etc in the OS. I know a lot of people don't like VM on the Amiga
- based on bad experiences with it on Windows and Mac but they aren't the best
- of solutions. Look at NT and Unix for better implementations.
-
- I hope they do add 68K compatibility but in the same way as the 16bit
- subsystem on NT. So that if you don't use it, it doesn't get loaded. This
- implies that the OS goes native as completely as possible.
